Does your skin feel dull, dry, oily, spotty or just not fresh and healthy?

The overall appearance as well as the colour of your skin can reveal a lot about your health and your daily skin routine. Skin problems like spots and blemishes, dryness, redness or dullness can be caused by genetic problems, hormonal imbalance or just a lack of basic daily care. Luckily, your daily skin care lies in your own hands and there are a lot of things you can do to improve your skin condition. In this article, therefore, we would like to share some basic skin care tips with you:

CTM Technique – Clean, Tone & Moisturize!

It’s important to stick to a daily routine to improve your skin in the long-term and to get a good-looking, healthy complexion. You should wash your face, therefore, twice every day: Once in the morning after getting up and in the evening just before going to bed. However, before touching and washing your face, you should always make sure that your hands are washed properly and germ-free. To wash your face its best to use lukewarm water and a soap-free, gentle face wash that fits your skin type (dry, normal, or oily). Ph-neutral cleansers are the best as they clear away any make-up, dirt or dullness, unclog your pores and reveal radiant new skin cells without drying your skin out or harming your natural skin barrier. After you cleansed your skin always use a toner to remove any leftover dirt, make-up and oil residues. The final step then is moisturizing your skin. It’s important to apply a moisturizer suitable for your skin type gently all over your face.

Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliate your skin at least once a week. Your skin renews itself constantly, but face wash and toner only remove the daily dirt and oil from your skin, not the dead skin cells. Exfoliation helps to remove these dead skin cells and uncovers the new and fresh skin cells underneath. Exfoliating your skin regularly, therefore, can even out your skin tone and prevents acne by removing pore-clogging dirt and oil. To exfoliate your skin, you can choose between 2 different types of exfoliation scrubs:

– Physical scrubs such as sugar or salt

– Chemical scrubs such as alpha-hydroxyl acids and salicylic acid.

Physical exfoliators rub away dead skin cells through scrubbing particles like sugar or salt grains. These exfoliators are especially recommendable, for a person that wants to feel the product working. However, if your skin is sensitive, prone to breakouts or hyper-pigmentation, you should choose a chemical exfoliator based on bio active components like fruit enzymes instead. Exfoliation is a great way of getting healthy, fresh and younger looking skin. Nevertheless, you should be careful and give your skin time to recover in-between exfoliations. It’s best to exfoliate once or twice a week.

Sun Protection!

The Sun can be the greatest enemy of good-looking and healthy skin. Careless exposure to sunlight and sunbathing for hours can damage the skin seriously. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation which comes from the sun can cause skin changes like wrinkles, discoloration, freckles or age spots and at worst even skin cancers. Therefore, you should always limit your time in the sun to a minimum, especially during the midday hours, and take care of proper sun protection. Sunscreen is a very important part of sun protection. Especially in areas as close to the equator as Bali: Due to the shorter distance between the earth and the sun near the equator, sunlight travels through less atmosphere compared to northern, temperate areas like Europe. As a result more damaging ultraviolet radiation reaches your skin in a shorter time. Consequently, you should use sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) of at least 40 all year round in Bali as there is little variation in UV intensity in Bali during the course of the year. This way you eliminate sunburns and make sure your skin is protected properly at all times.

Skin care from within. WATER!

And the final tip is to drink more water. You only get one skin for all your life, so you should not only take care of it from the outside, but also give your skin what it needs from the inside. Drinking more or enough water is actually such a simple and inexpensive way to keep your skin healthy. Water is an essential component for the effective functioning of your body and is actually making up for approximately 50 to 70% of your body mass. Especially here in Bali the body loses a lot of water by sweating and the heat, therefore it is essential to get enough fluids to avoid dehydration. You should drink at least 10 glasses of water every day. But water also serves other functions in our body than just keeping it hydrated: It removes toxins and waste products from the body and thereby helps to keep it clean and healthy. Drinking an appropriate amount of water has also a direct influence on your complexion and is actually more important than applying creams to your face to reduce dryness and dullness. Well hydrated skin looks fresh and radiant. Another tip: Try to wash your face with cold water to eliminate redness and improve your make-up application.
