Fruit Acid Peel

This procedure can restore sun-damaged, wrinkled, blemished, acne scarred or blotchy skin to its original youthful appearance.  The results are normally a smoother more even toned textured skin.  The skin will look younger, tighter and fresher than before although it cannot remove all facial flaws.

Alphahydroxy Acid: These peels help with fine, superficial wrinkles, sun damage, unevenness, white and black heads, pimples and splotchiness.  These peels can also improve dryness and dehydrated skins.  They aren’t very invasive and provide mild resurfacing results.  They produce a mild rejuvenation without the extended downtime of a more invasive peel.

Fruit Acids: There are five main fruit acids: citric acids (citrus-derived), glycolic (derived from sugar cane), lactic acid (although derived from milk, this is still considered a “fruit acid”), malic (derived from apples) and tartaric (derived from grapes).

In our clinic we usually used glycolic and lactic acid peel.

Glycolic Acid Peels: formulated from sugar cane, this peel creates a mild exfoliating action.  Glycolic acid peels work by loosening up the horny layer and exfoliating the superficial top layer.  This peel also stimulates collagen growth. There are glycolic acid in 20%, 35%, 50%, &70%.

Lactic Acid Peel: An in-office 70%or less alphahydroxy facial peel to remove dead skin cells, and promote healthier, softer and more radiant skin.  This peel is derived from either sour milk.

Are You a Candidate for a fruit acid peel?

Depending upon the peel, you may be a candidate for a chemical peel if you have slight wrinkles, hyperpigmentations, splotchiness, unevenness, acne, acne scars, black heads or sun damaged skin.  You may not be a candidate if you have oral herpes, as this can spread to your healing skin and cause great, weeping sores which will damage and scar your skin.

Why do I need a Fruit Acid Peel?

Skin that is exposed to the sun or has suffered over-exposure to the sun is damaged and ages faster. A Fruit Acid Peel helps you regain a noticeably softer, smoother and healthier skin. Unsightly acne scars, pigmentation and age spots can also be effectively treated with the Peel.

Where can this treatment applied?

Commonly exposed areas to the sun are the face, chest and decolletage (v-area below neck). The hands and arms can also be treated.

What can I expect after my Fruit Acid Peel?

Find yourself transformed with radiant and healthier-looking skin. Skin tone is also more even, softer and smoother. Peel away the years and feel the difference in firmness, suppleness and elasticity. You will notice the reduction in the number and severity of lines, wrinkles and pigmentation spots. Skin can also be effectively lightened.

How does the Fruit Acid Peel work?

Fruit Acid Peels treat the entire face, removing the outer layer of damaged skin cells to reveal new, rejuvenated skin. With deeper peels, new, rejuvenated skin is formed. The fruit acids stimulate the skin to produce additional natural collagen which assists to fill in fine lines, acne scars and wrinkles for a more uniform, softer, smoother skin.

What is the treatment like?

A series of peels is performed using a glycolic acid / lactic acid product applied to skin. Peels can vary from mild to deep peels, varying in strength from 20-70 %, depending on the existing condition of the skin and the desired individual results. Generally, the peels are performed l every 2- 4 week, as clinically indicated. A take-home product is used in conjunction with the peel for achieving even skin tone or an AHA pigmentation cream may be advised.

What will my face look like after a Fruit Acid Peel?

Depending on the depth and strength of the peel, your face may show some degree of redness for up to four days following your treatment. You may prefer to stay indoors and avoid the sun. Using a sun block is a must.
